PHOTOSHOP (1) (MEG LEWIS) TOOLBAR EXPLORATION

I have decided to go back to basics with my Digital Journey a.k.a PHOTOSHOP & ILLUSTRATOR, and start from the beginning; online resources that have been recommended is my first port of call….AGAIN.

One of the most awful things about having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Poor concentration and a terrible short term memory when trying to learn a new skill. I have decided that I will try to document some of the fundamentals of PHOTOSHOP on my blog, which in turn will hopefully serve as a quick link if I should get stuck.

Due to the Design nature of my degree and the work I will produce there are a few steps I should always follow before creating a new document/design on PHOTOSHOP:

ALWAYS CHOOSE THE PRINT OPTION WHEN CREATING A NEW DOCUMENT

I WILL BE USING THE A3 SIZE SPECIFIED WITHIN THIS BRIEF

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PARAMETERS WHICH SHOULD BE SET BEFORE CREATING THE NEW DOCUMENT; INCHES SHOULD BE CHOSEN FOR SIZE/SCALE, RESOLUTION SHOULD BE SET TO 300 & COLOUR TO BE SET AS CMYK (PRINT PURPOSES).

TO KNOW THE SIZE OF THE DOCUMENT AT ALL TIMES HOLD DOWN CMD+R (RULER), WHICH WILL BRING UP A MEASUREMENT GUIDE ON THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL.

PRESSING F (3 SETTINGS) TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND LOOK AT THE PROGRESS OF YOUR WORK WITHOUT THE HINDRANCE OF ALL THE TOOL VARS ETC (GREAT FOR DESIGN WORK LIKE MINE).

DEPENDENT ON WHICH TOOL IS CHOSEN FROM THE TOOLBAR (ON THE VERTICAL LEFT HAND SIDE) A RANGE OF TOOL OPTIONS WILL APPEAR AT THE TOP LEFT HAND SIDE (HORIZONTAL). EACH RANGE OF OPTIONS WILL CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE TOOL CHOSEN.

MOVING DOWN THE TOOLBAR:

THE MOVE TOOL: ALLOWS YOU TO GRAB, MOVE AND FIX

ELIPTICAL/RECTANGULAR MARQUEE TOOL: ALLOWS SELECTION OF CERTAIN AREAS TO REMOVE OR MARK OUT; THIS WILL BE ONE OF MY MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS.
